Ok, I got two questions.
First, how big is the world. I mean, how long would it take to run from one end to another without having monsters slowing you down by attacking you?
(I know there are maps where you can see the whole world on, but it doesn't really shows how big it is)

Then secondly, when you want new armor you go to a crafter and he makes it for you. First you have to have the items (hides...) to craft it of course. How do you get these items? Only from monsters, or can you go mine/harvest them?

most of the paths in the explorable areas are somewhat walled-off so running straight from one end of tyria to the other would be fairly difficult. depending on where you are, an explorable area can take 10 minutes to an hour to run through, so if you were able to avoid all mobs entirely and did not warp to any points on the map, i would guesstimate a trip from the easternmost point to the westernmost point would take a good 10-15 hours. you could do the missions from ascalon to denravi in less than a day and get the same accomplished.

as for crafting materials, they are randomly dropped by mobs as well as salvaged from items including armor and weapons. you can find much more information in our sections such as the Guides, New Player's Center, and Armor Compendium.
